Professor Will Discuss Women's Studies in the Arab World

April 1 webcast in Arabic with Howard University’s Dr. Mervat Hatem

The U.S. Embassy in Amman, Jordan, will present a digital videoconference on women’s issues that is timed to coincide with International Women’s Month. The videoconference will launch a series of programs designed to increase understanding of women’s and gender studies in Jordan, professionalize the discipline through more rigorous research and collection of statistics, and encourage policies and legislation that improve the status of women in the country. We will webcast this program on April 1 at 10 a.m. EDT (14:00 GMT). Our guest is Dr. Mervat Hatem.

Mervat F. Hatem, Ph.D., is a professor of political science at Howard University in Washington. Her latest publication on the topic of globalization is titled “In the Eye of the Storm: Islamic Societies and Muslim Women in the Globalization Discourses,” which will appear shortly in Comparative Studies of South Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
