Drug Control

 

The Office of National Drug Control Policy, established 1988

Mission: To establish policies, priorities and objectives for the nation's drug control program.

Duties: This office, part of the Executive Office of the President, sets policies, priorities and objectives for combating drug trafficking and the illegal use of controlled or banned narcotics. The director is responsible for the National Drug Control Strategy, which details the ways in which the program will prevent drug use, disrupt the drug market and help recovering drug users.

History: The office was established by the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988.

International Commitments: The office works with other federal agencies and allies abroad to combat drug trafficking.

Fun fact: The director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy has been nicknamed the “Drug Czar.”
