Following is the English translation of Haitian Ambassador Ray Joseph’s audio message to the people of Haiti, recorded in Creole on January 16, 2010.
My fellow Haitians. I am Raymond Joseph, Ambassador of Haiti in Washington.
I have a short message for you.
Listen, if you think you can will on a boat to come to the United States, well, my friends, they will catch you right on the water, and they will send you back home right away.
The country needs you right now, and it needs you right at home in Haiti, so you can help rebuild the country.
We will rebuild it with strength, with the strength that we find in the “Strength in Unity.”
So with the help of Almighty God, I say to you, stay strong, work, stay home. You will find better help right at home.
