MEDIA NOTE

U.S.-Iraq Business and Investment Conference Set for October 20-21 in Washington, D.C.

The U.S. Department of State, in partnership with the Department of Commerce, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Iraqi Embassy announce the U.S.–Iraq Business and Investment Conference (USIBIC), scheduled to take place October 20-21, at the Capitol Hill Hyatt Hotel in Washington, D.C.

The conference is the first major event under the Strategic Framework Agreement between the United States and Iraq, an agreement that marks a new chapter in relations between the two nations.

The USIBIC will cover twelve sectors – agriculture, banking/finance, defense, electricity, health, education, housing/construction, oil/gas, telecommunications, tourism, industry, and transportation.  The conference is intended to promote current investment and business opportunities in Iraq, provide matchmaking opportunities for U.S. and Iraqi firms, address the challenges to doing business in Iraq, and provide opportunities for U.S. firms to meet with Iraqi Ministers and other senior Government of Iraq officials, including provincial leaders.
