Afghanistan Security Mission

The United States stands with its 25 NATO allies, as well as 14 other nations that together make up the 43,000-strong International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) dedicated to helping the people of Afghanistan emerge from decades of conflict and oppression.

ISAF is providing the security needed as the Afghan people, supported by 26 provincial reconstruction teams “reconnect” their country with roads, markets, hospitals and schools.

NATO’s mission in Afghanistan will be a top priority at the 2008 NATO Summit in Bucharest, Romania.  Allies will take stock of progress to date and make plans to face the many challenges that remain ahead.
